Group eyeing Milton as location to open transitional housing Not everyone is lucky enough to have family to tum 1 ini times of need. Thats why Jim Snyder is trying to estab- lish a transitional housmng unit for mndivid- uals who have just corne out of or are gomnginto drug or alcohol rehabilitation. Mr. Snyder, co-founder and secretary of Discovery Support Services Foundation mnc., said the group is looking at several locations throughout Haton and Peel regions- including Milton -10 establish the housing unit. "In Peel and Halton there is a shortage of tbis type of housing. There is no where for these people 10 go and îhey end up back on the street," he said. "If you dont have family to tum to, a lot of people coming out of treatment have nothing and no place to go." Although Discovery was established about two years ago, he said the non-prof- it organization is stil i n the beginning stages of ils planning. "We're trying 10 raise funds through bar- becues, golf toumraments and raffles. We'rc looking for more people to take on a role with the organlzation." Mr. Snyder said the home would house three 10 five residents, including one 'den mother. The residents would have regular house- hold responsibilities and must live by a set of housé ruIes. "The main thing is. when people corne out of treaîmenî îhey feel isolated. They feel like they are not part of the communi- îy. If you dont have support or something to tum 10., the odds of your success is almost zero." For more information, cal Jim Snyder at (905) 693-0716 or e-mail to jrsphd@cnge- coca.
