Brothers Matshew and Adam Baxter received the awards from Prince Philip in Toronto October 10. as part of the Royal Visit. The programn reqoires participants to attain personally established goals in the areas of commonity service, skills develop- ment, physical fitness and expeditions. 'Me brothers are members of Milton's Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps and have served as coxswain, the organization's highest non-commissioned appoinsment. Both have completed extensive leadership training in the cadet program, and have served as staff cadets at HMCS Ontario, the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet sommer train- ing centre in Kingston. The brothers have received the Lord Stratheona Medal for exemplaay leadership service and physical fitness. In 1999, Matthew received the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Association medal as the top cadet atsending HMCS Ontario. Adam has been a recipient of the Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence. Matthew is currently atsending the University of Guelph, where he plans to major in music. Adam is attending Brock University to study physical education. UPS grant will benefit bereaved families group Bereaved Families of Ontario (BFO) Halton/Peel will now be able to offer a Children's Room thanks to a recent $36,000 grant from United Parcel Service (UPS) Canada Foondation. The fonds wiil also be used to purchase outreach equipment for on-site sehool vis- its. "No child or young person is ever pre- pared for tragedy,' said BFO executive director Wendy Dean. Its impact can leave a devastating absence in the lives of surviving children, ofien leaving them traumatized and isolated. The fonds were raised doring the foun- dations third annual charity golf tourna- ment at Granite Ridge Golf Club September 16. Fonds raised during the day's events will be used to support individuals facing diffi- culties with physiotherapy and transporta- tion needs.
