ô - The Canadian Champion, Tuesday, October 29, 2002 SCOMMENT Fighting homeles snes s important human deed The Halton Town Hall Group (HTHG) has a doubly difficult task ahead in its quest to bring an end to poverty and homelessness in the region. The relatively new organization, comprised of socially-conscious and active resîdents, aims to go beyond educating people about the home- less problem. The HTHG's hope is that, with the newfound knowledge of just how widespread homelessness is, citizens will be prepared to exceed the tra- ditional steps of donatmng to their local food bank. What the group ultimately seeks is sufficient support to effect the kind of political change that would see far more affordable housing units buit and fewer Halton residents facmng the prospect of having no place to caîl home. It's no longer good enough to sympathize with the plight of displaced men, women and children. The proof we care about the homeless will be shown in our effort to make a difference. The I-THG is offening to be the catalyst for this important humani- tarian deed. The rest is up to us. We support the HTHG's bold quest and hope Halton residents are prepared to help it succeed. _ ,.~ I O UR READERS WRITE Restaurant patron soys she was upset E. C.
