The results of the thanksgiving food drive were tallied over the weekend. A new Bishop Reding record high 6043 cans were collected. Mr. Schiller's period one class led the entire school with i154 canned goods. Student Government is organizing some outrageous activities this week. The dull roar of the cafeteria was replaced by the slamin sounds of Incubus, Coldplay, and Junkie XL. Wednesday the hand scraping, leg numbing, scooter races took place in the student square. The annual talent show takes place November 14th, so if you have any outstanding or unusual talents be sure to strut your stuff October 28th and 29th. In sports news this week the varsity girl's field hockey team was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. The heart breaker ended in a double overtime shootout. Signy Frank was the lone goal scorer. Great season ladies! In girls basketball action Tuesday night both Junior and Senior teams played tough. The junior team hammered their opponents White Oaks 28-14. Shannon Jonston was strong in all aspects of court play. The senior girls also ended the day with a victo- ry defeating White Oaks 36-20. Marianne Pes was strong in the post, backed by Amanda Voros and Megan McGuire con- trolling the tempo. Christy Ng contributed tremendous energy in the 4th quarter. Good luck to both teams as they travel to top ranked team, Saint Thomas Aquinas, Thursday, Oct. 17. GO ROYALS GO! "The great thing in the world is not so much where we stand as in what direction we are moving." -Oliver Wendell Holmes This week's column is dedicated to the hard working E.C. Drury Parents' Council who staff the monthly Bingo games which are used to sup- port a number of various Drury organizations, teams, and countless events here at Drury. Certainly, the council, with its numerous grants helps a wide range of groups at our school. In point of fact, the economic survival of many groups is dependent upon the monies which the council earns running Bingo games. It is vital that this sponsorship and support continues. With this in mind, the present council is now soliciting parent volunteers who may be trained to help with the Bingo games. So if your son or daughter benefits from the work of the parents' council, why don't you volunteer your much needed time and energy to ensure that this tradi- tion continues? If you are interested, call E.C. Crury High School at (905) 878-0575 and leave your name and phone number. On to this week's Drury triumph ... on an aca- demic note, results from last year's grade 10 lit- eracy test were recently published, and Hooray, Hooray, Drury surpassed the provincial average, and the Halton average. Congratulations are cer- tainly on order for the school Literacy Team! So, in closing, we here at Drury would like to encourage our readers to go and work off last weekend's Thanksgiving turkey by taking a nice, leisurely walk. Go outside and see the beautiful colours of the leaves ... Autumn only comes once a year! "MUSTANG MESSENGER" Megan Cavon Steph Creighton MILTON DISTRICT DIe SCGOL Are you all still feeling lethargic from the massive amounts of turkey last weekend? At least the crazy rush of events of the first month and a half is slowing down, since we're only able to waddle at the moment. This is a good excuse for all of our sports teams and any of their recent losses, but what are the excuses for the winners?! From the Mustangs Sports Central, today's high is 21, with the junior football team beating St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders 21 to 6. Congrats boys, you are earning your stars! ( And now Mr. Grant doesn't have to yell at the refs quite so much). Our low for today will be our senior's loss against Aldershot. We were warned not to risk Mr. Pearce's wrath by requesting scores. From a secret source we have that they lost 34 to 1. But on the screen the forecast for the next few games will be strong for the 'Stangs, with a clear chance of victory. The junior girls' basketball team lost to Oakville Trafalgar on the 8th, with a score of 37 to 20. They gave it their best effort though, and are pumped up for a win next game. In order to continue cheering for our teams in the upcoming cold weather, Mr. Hamilton bas devised a strategy. We are hav- ing uniforms ordered from Paris, but they are just late in arriv- ing. Just kidding, the reality is you get to wear your MDHS sweatshirt! Hey guys and gals, Halloween is just around the comer. Have you thought about your costume, or are you too old to dress up? You know that Mrs. O'Reilly, our roving yearbook photogra- pher, will be very disappointed if there are no ghouls or goblins haunting the hall of MDHS for crazy Halloween pictures! Are you going to say cheese or cheese-y? Speaking of the autumn months, we will be having an Oktoberfest BBQ on October 17th periods 3 and 4. Hot dogs and drinks will be sold for only $1.00. On a more stressful note, all of our grade tens will be writing the EQAO Literacy Test on October 23 and 24. Study hard and good luck. Commencement is on 25th at 7:30 in our large gym. We are looking forward to having all of our grads back. We'll see you again next week. Just look for the two gor- geous females and that's the column to read! If you have any comments, let us know with a (friendly) e-mail at MDHSNews(@hotmail.com. Take it easy! p # ,
