The Canadian Champion, Friday, October 18, 2002-11 ibudds' SUBARU 513 Speers Road, 905.845.2800 www.buddssubaru.comA Budds' Subaru Survival Challenge raises $38,000 for Ian Anderson House On Saturday September 28th 2002 Budds' Subaru of Oakville was host to the "Budds' Subaru Survival Challenge". The challenge was a huge success - raising $38,000 plus $12,000 in donations towards the cost of the rally, in support of Ian Anderson House, an organization that provides end-of-life palliative care for cancer victims. Although there were no torches or tribal councils, there was fierce competi- tion, extraordinary displays of physical prowess and some exciting Subaru auto- motive action! The day began at 11:00 AM when the participants gathered at Budds' Subaru on Speers Road to start the Survival Challenge. It was a perfect fall day for a car rally. The event consisted of a rally, whereby ten teams competed in four separate events. Ten teans of four were equipped with a Subaru All Wheel Drive vehicle, a mountain bike, a canoe, golf clubs and their own adventurous spirit. Once teams were released from the dealership, each team navigated their way to unknown destinations where they were given another challenge. The first nine cars pulled into the parking lot of the Mississauga Rowing Club and a participant from each team was given a canoe, life jacket and pad- dle. Within a few short minutes the 10th car arrived and they were off golf. Team members not golfing were able to enjoy a little rest and relaxation in preparation for the final challenge. Back in their cars, they received instructions for the next destination and they made their way to Kelso Conservation Park, in Milton. Upon arrival, the bikes were unloaded and cyclists "carefully raced" along an arduous trail, negotiating twists and turns and trees in the road. Next in line was the golf- ing challenge at the Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington. It was a beau- tiful day, the sun was shin- ing and no doubt the golfers found it quite a chore to complete the required three holes of The final leg of the Survival Challenge took place in an empty lot next to the Budds' Jaguar Dealership on South Service Road in Oakville. Earlier that week the lot was transformed by Budds' Subaru into a closed circuit off roading course. As the teams arrived they were sent into the track to be tested on time and preci- sion. After the four hour rally, cars arrived back at the Budds' Subaru dealership for the awards cerenmony, where participants exchanged stories, and enjoyed food and refresh- ments. Chris Budd gra- ciously presented Margaret Anderson with a symbolic cheque for $50,000.00 of total donations. In third place was Budds' Subaru, in second place was Chapman Morris / Jet Business Forms, and com- ing in first place was Roxul Inc. Congratulations to all of the teams! "We are very pleased at how exceptionally well the Survival Challenge went off" said Chris Budd, owner of Budds' Subaru. "Ian Anderson House is an extremely worthv cause, and we are happy to organ- ize such a generous contri- bution to their efforts."
