They lost the second game of ibeir exis- tence 40-0 in Oshawa Sunday. After losing their opener 65-0, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that its going to take a while for the expansion franchise 10 became a contending force. t's not as if they're the Bad News Bears or anything, its just that they don'i do anything better than the opposing team, yei. They give the effort, ihey're not quitters by any means, but they're in tough. They were lousy in ibis game; there's no sugar coating it. It was even îelevised on an Oshawa cable channel, so there's no deny- ing it took place. The games do provide entertanmeni, however, so to streamline it for you, you can select from the followîng caiegories. Mîlton's besi quarter of football. Quarterback swiich almosi works. After quarterback Ryan McGill was taken oui near the end of the second quar- ter, Gary Baetsen, more of a serambler. got the hall moving for Milton. Fie had several completions, including one to Damien Hannaford that he fumbled out of bounds that he might have been able to tum into a touchdown. An interception with about 10 seconds remaining in the haîf at the 10- yard line ended the rally. Jody Farrow of Oshawa on a great end around run went 43 yards and fumbled. Unfortunately for him, the end zone was 44 yards. A teammate picked up the hall and ran the final yard for the easy touch- down. The teammate was his brother, Dwayne Farrow. The league didn't get Mike OBrien's birth certificate in time. Milton linebseker, Stu Gilbert, possibly frustrated, siarted beating on the Hawkeyes. sometimes afler the whistle. Although lie got an unnecessary roughnes's penalty or two. the Hawkeyes knew who him. Sean Fautker led the tearn with 38 rush- ing yards, impressive because they only had 32 net rushing yards. Hannaford was 3 for 52 in receiving. Alistair Bailey led the team with eight tackles. McGili was 3 of 10 passing, Baetsen was 4 of 13, for a com- bined 99 yards. Blocked three extra point attempts. Joe Kloosterboer is gigantic, towening over everybody else on the field. Unfortunately, he's neyer played football before and is being brought along slowly. Quotes from coach, Alan Coulver: Its a tough, tough league, there are no pushovers. . .It's a building proces... .We've been telling themn since November it would be a tough year . .. we have to accent the positive and build on that . ..there are a lot of litile technical things that we can fix. . .kickoff retums were decent compared to the week before and gave us better field position... .we made a couple of good gains.'
