20-The Canadian Champion, Friday, June 14, 2002 Champion informed Virginia hospital official of s-J A sp~ l -. 0 ' z - from FORMER on page 5 two had been medically mistreated, as docu- mented a Virginia medical board committee report. Although Virginia medical officials as Patrick County Memorial Hospital were never officially notified by the Ontario college regarding the dis- ciplinary action against Dr. Bradley here, The Champion informed hospital officials in 1996 of Dr. Bradley's previous history. Facing threat of another disciplinary hearing in Virginia in 2000, Dr. Bradley agreed to surrender his licence there. "If they (college) had done the right thing at the beginning, people wouldn't have died," Ms McGowen said. The revocation of Dr. Bradley's Ontario licence came as good news to Miltonian Jeanne Robinson. In 1989, the Robinsons took their son Michael to Milton District Hospital after he was experiencing great pain in his abdomen. "He (Dr. Bradley) said he wasn't sure what it was and Michael was kept ovemight for obser- vation," Ms Robinson said. The following day her then 11l-year-old son was transferred to the Hospital for Sick Children. "What we didn't know was that his appendix had already burst. The doctor at Sick Kids took one look at him and knew it was his appendix. The doctor said they had to operate right away but Michael was so dehydrated they had to wait until he was hydrated. He spent 17 days in the hospital - he could have died." After the Robinson's encounter with Dr. Bradley, Ms Robinson said she called the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons to make a formal complaint. "The woman asked me if I wanted to add my complaint to his file or start a case of my own. I was furious - why were we kept in the dark about this?" A review of three major Master Plans for water and wastewater services to service growth in these areas is in progress to update and consolidate the information. The objective is to develop one complete planning document that lays out a comprehensive servicing strategy for the entire Halton Urban Area. This update is proceeding in accordance with the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process. The project team, consisting of regional staff and our engineering consultant, KMK Consultants Limited has evaluated the capacity of the existing water and wastewater infrastructure and identified that additional capacity and facilities are required to service the projected growth and protect and enhance the security and reliability of Halton's water and wastewater systems. Several alternative servicing strategies have been identified and evaluated taking into consideration environmental and social impacts as well as financial considerations. Preliminary recommendations have been developed. A Public Information Centre has been arranged to review and receive input from the public about the alternative solutions and the preliminary identification of a preferred master plan solution to service the Halton Urban Area. While the Master Plan addresses needs and justification at a broad level, more detailed studies for each of the projects in the Master Plan will be done at a later date and additional public input will be solicited. Information will also be made available, for public comment, on the Region's Biosolids Master Plan and Program Management Strategy which is an integral and critical component of the wastewater treatment process and operation.
