Burlington MPP Cam Jackson issued a press release earlier tiis week saying tisas Halton District Scisool Board will receive another $5 million in funding for tiis year. The Halton Catisolic District Scisool Board will receive $9.5 million more. Tbe funding is part of a $350 million boost announced May 10 by tise provincial govemment. Increase shows a solid commitment: MPP Mr. Jackson described tise money as sisowing a solid commitment to public scisools. "Thsis significant investment will give our local scisool board more of tise resources and tools sisey need to enisance Ieaming opportunities for students, he remnarked." Caria Kisko, superintendent of business for the Halton District School Board, said the money is being doled out in ways that don't benefit Halton, which doesn't have declining enroilment or a high proportion of high-needs students. She said the $5 million is actually closer to $4.5 million. Essentially, it's about 1.5 to 1.7 per cent more per student. well short of wbat's needed. she said. Funding outdated "Our funding is essentially 1997 dollars and we're trying to buy tbings in 2002, 50 we're struggling and bave bcen for tihe last four years."
