Committee member approved an altered motion Monday that would se the signing of a reciprocal firefighting agreement with Halton Hilîs over the originall1y -propu sed Guelph/Eramosa department. "This is certainly mure acceptable tu me than what was proposed before.- said Councillor Barry Lee. Mr. Lee first raised concemn over the propused agreement with GuelphlEramosa during committee dis- cussions last month, saying he wasnt convinced the depariment would be able 1(1 respond quicker than Halson Hilîs fire- fightcrs. The Town bas maintaîncd a reciprocal agreement ssîth Halton Hilis since 1974. jNorth Milton geography cao be confus- ing if you dont know the area. which could mean delays for firefighters responding to occurrences, the rural councillur argued. The GuelphlEramosa department was originally recommended because it is geographically the closest to north Milton - responding out of Rockwood. Following instructions from the com- mittee, Milton Fire Chief Harold Penson conducted mileage and time evaluations for both the GuelphlEramosa and Halton Hilis depariments. Response times could- n't be compared because there's nu recent history of GuelphlEramosa responding into Milton. It bas become apparent that Milton, Halton Hilîs and Rockwood fire depart- ments cannot meet the '10 firefighters in 10 minutes,' which is required by the Office of the Fire Marshall,' the chief said in the follow-up report tu the com- mittee. It is therefore recommended that the Halton Hilîs Fire Department continue to respond to this area as they have good knowledge of the area. mure firefighters to respond and they have the capability to talk to Milton fire through the regional radio system where Rockwood cannot.- Town council bas yet to ratify the com- mttees decision, but is expected to du 50 May 21- following which, Halton Hilîs town council will consider the agree- ment.
