vStudent employment for another season By FANNIE SUNSHINE The Champion With summer fast approaching, most young people will be acîively searching for employmenî. To help make the job search process a litîle easier, the Milton and Georgetown Human Resource Centre of Canada for Students (HRCC-S) is now open. The centre held ils grand opening Tuesday at ils office at 3 10 Main St., unit 106 (aerons from TD Canada Trust). "l'm very exciîed tu be back in full swing again this sommer," Anne-Marie Chiles, supervisor of the North Halton/Dufferin HRCC-S, told the omal crowd at the opening. "The student offices are run by stu- dents. People can come in and access the computers for a job search. AIl of our services are free of charge and we look forward 10 servicing you.' Charla Armstrong, co-ordinator of HRCC-S Peel/l-aton/Dufferin, said the mission of I-RCC-S is 10 enable students 10 actively participate in the workplace. "The first job is a large transition we al have lu make. We have 350 offices across Canada and helped 460,000 students with job searches last year. Our success is due in large part bo the communiîy involve- ment. I know the Milton and Georgetown offices will do well again Iis year in assisting people with their job search needs." Mayor Gord Krantz, who officially opened the centre, oltered words of praise. "The centre provides an opportu- niîy for youth. I'd like to think we are an affluent community but there are those who struggle to work their way through school. Since 1968, HRCC-S offices have been assisting studento and employers across Canada with their oummer employment needs. The offices provide a variety of free services, including helping students to improve their job search okills and acquire meaningful employment and helping employers 10 find qualified, enthusiastic help. HRCC-S is part of the Govemment of Canada's Youth Employment Strategy (YES), an action plan 10 help young Canadians successfully make the transi- ion from school to work. The strategy is designed to help young people acquire knowledge, skills. work experience and career information needed Io enter and participale fully in the labour market. "We're here 10 help assist students with the skills lhey will need 10 be ready in the world of work," Ms Chiles told The Champion. "Some of the people who corne in don'î know what they would like 10 do. People can corne in and use our services as many imes as necessary.
