But if he responds that the sparrow is alive, I wîll squeeze my hands together and crush the life out of the spar- row." A sinister grin carne across the faces of these two schemers as they neared their destination. Finally they arrived before the wise old guru and began to ques- tion. "Oh, wise one, what is it that I have hidden in my hands?" Th old man pondered but a moment an~said, "You have a bird in your hand." "Sir, what kind of bird?" the stunned teen asked. The wise old man responded with certainty, "A sparrow.' "And sir, please tell us, is the sparrow alive or is it dead?" The wise old man studied the faces of these two young delin- quents for what appeared to be an etematy, andtben slowly he replied, "Son, the decision as to whether the bird is alive or dead lies in your hands." Today, even in our varied circum- stances and situations, the deci- sions of life lie in our hands. Every day of every week, of every mont h and year we are confronted with decisions that must be made. Some are small and uneventful - like what to order in a restaurant, or what to wear to the office, perhaps where to take the children to play. But there are some determinations which are much more significant - like who we will marry, what career we will pursue, where we will live ... and whether or not we will follow Jesus. Wbether those decisions are life giving or wbetber they will resuit in a dead end, that determination lies m our hands. The Holy Bible is the greatest guidebook that we cou ever read to bel p us witb the decisions of life. Consult the Scriptures. Come to church. Make the right choices today and ensure a brigbter tomor- row! SOUTHSIDE COMMUNiT! CHIJRCH We welcome you to... ( ofThe Christian & Miusionary Alliance ST.
