Druy Park (Friends), says the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Allegations of abuse of position were made by Councillor Rick Malboeuf last week after M. Challinor circulated a flyer tlsrough The Champion solicitmng funds for Friends. The ietterhead on the flyer included M. Chailinor's position as councillor, the Town's corporate name and Town Hall address, which Mr. Malboeuf said waa inap- propriate. But it doesn't raise any red flags for the ministry, said Peter-John Sidebottom, acting director of the municipal govemance instrssctors branch. "The miles of conduct we have relate only to conflict of mnterest anad that only relates to vesy specif- ic circumstances where there's a decision before counicil that the member of council or a relative have a financial interest in," M. Sidebottom taid. This information came as no sur- "k1's a dead Issue. It neyer Was a live mre inM y .p m: prise to M. The Champion contacted the Ministry of Municipal Affaira and Housing after Mr. Malhoeuf attempted to ralse the issue under new business as town council Monday night, but was muled out- of-order by the majority of council- lors. "This bas nothing whataoever to do with council," Mayor Gord Krantz sald, adding M. Malboeuf should contact the ministry if he wished to continue with the issue. "I for one don't want to tell any one of you (councillors) what to do in your private life." Respondisg to the out-of-order rulmng, Mr. Malboeuf forwarded bis speaking notes to The Champion, which outlined further concems about the appropriateneas of the E.C. Drury School Advisory Council offering tax receipta for donations received to pay down the Friends debt. However, the debt belongs to the advisory counicil as weil, explained Judy Hutton. advisory counicil treasurer. "We were party to the (0MB) action through Frienda. We jomned their action just prior to the court appearance," said Ms Hutton, adding the two groupa uted the same solicitor. "The bis are going to the name of Friends - we just alh agreed we were comfortable with that. We've each done oui nwn fundraisings and we've done some joint fisndraisings." Colette Gents-Hawn, spokesperson for Canada Customs ansd Revenue, which grants charita- hie statua, told The Champion she was unaire if the activity was mnap- propriate without conducting a full investigation.
