Burlington councillor John Taylor was elected vice-chair of tht board. After accepting tht chair's job, Mr. Robinson - a provincial appointet - said it's a privilege to serve in that capacity, especially tinte the board is known for its cornmunity. Me. Brewer, also a provincial appointet, said in passing the reins to Me. Robinson that tht board remains in good hands. "I'm very pleased. Tht last two years (as chair) have been out- standing and 1 feel very good about tuming it over," said Me. Brewer, who rernains on tht board for another two years. Me. Robinson said that as a provinciai entity - not a regionai ont - tht board and its members must operate under tht mandatory obligations of tht Police Services Att, which are continually being amended. That includes meeting provinciai adequacy standards which, of course, corne with increasing costs attached. "There will aiso be additional costs that we don't know about," said Me. Robinson. For example, he said, there's no cides will occur in Halton. Mr. Robinson said he tikes the fact that the board is mun "in a civi- lized way" with a free exehange of ideas and differing opinions between members, senior police officiais and administration. "The taxpayers as a whole should be really proud," he said. Mr. Robinson said he will keep an eye on the problem of attractmng new police officers and competent senior staff without gttting into a "price war" witb other services. He also plans to talk to the Province about the issue of stag- gtring appointees' ternis so that a srnooth continuity is tnjoyed by tht board. Mr' Brewtr, who lost bis wife in 2000, joined tht board four years ago and was chair for tht last two.
