Sometimes deliveries to shoppe late: trial By FANNIE SUNSHINE The Champion The owner of an Owen Sound fumiture, manufacturing business told Burlington court Fniday his company didn't always deliver orders within the usual six-week time frame to the Village Pine Shoppe in Campbellville. Larry Vokes, co-owner of Frontier Fumiture, testified in the ongomng fraud trial of Chartes Curne that bis store could have taken up su three months before deliv- erisg orders to the shop. Duning cross-examination, defense lawyer Anthony Bryant went through, page by page, orders made by the Village Pine Shoppe to Frontier Furniture during 1997 and 1998. He pomnted out several pieces of furni- toit ordered by the store failed to be deliv- ered. "TMe paper work was generated the day before shipment," Mr. Vokes told the court. "Maybe we realized in the morning it wasn't ready but we wouldn't hold up thse truck." Mr. Vokes, who testified he deait with Mr. Corine regarding manofacturing fumi- ture for the Village Pine Shoppe, said bis store delivered numerous pieces of fumi- sure to thse store between 1996 and 1999. "Things would get dry for a while and then we would get more orders from hins (Mr. Corne)," he said, adding the store made up 15 per cent of Frontier Furniture's business. Mr. Vokes testified in November bis business began receiving bad cheques from the Village Pine Shoppe in mid-1998 but continued to deliver fomiture to the shop. He claimed bis store is out in excess of $25,000 after numerous cheques from thse store failed to dlean. Mr. Corne, 43, of Campheilville faces 25 counts of fraud under $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000. He waa charged with allegations that some costomers of the store didn't receive the furniture they ordered or their money back. M. Cornie remains in custody.
