"IThs food drive gets us through most of tie year. We don't have any other food drives this big," Laurie Good, Salvation Army family service worker, said addmng she anticipates a larger need this year than ini years paat. "Due to the Seplember Il terrorisl attacks, there have been some layoffs." LasI year, the drive collected about 14,500 poundi of food and Uic Salvation Army's Milton branch handed out 130 hol- iday hampers t0 families ini need. Tomorrow momning, Milton firefighters and other volunteers will make their way through town collecting donation bagi filled with non-perishable food items. T'Me bags were dustributed in last Friday's Champion. "People just fill Uic hag up and put it on their front step,' Ms Good explained. "The firefighters or volunteers pick them up and put them, in their trucks." Donations collected tomnorrow wilI bu added t0 Uic 2,200 pounds of food items collected duning Uic Santa Claus Parade Sunday. "The whole town is very, very generous. This lime of year it's overwhelming," said Ms Good. "The generosity just neyer cess- es t0 amaze me - money, toys, food, whatever Uiey're donating.' Financial donations are also being accepted at Loblaws and A&P grocery stores as welI as Uic Salvation Army build- ing on Nipissing Road.
