18--The Canadian Champion, Fniday, November 30, 2001 fidn'( M bme (lye teenfiç t ram HERE'S on page 8 1 had my worst experience at a Mississauga movie theatre. I had to wait until the ticker seller fished her conversa- tion; stood at the counter waiting to be served for five minutes with no other cus- tomners there because 1 wasn't standing in the right spot; heard one of the workers burp loudly as he walked by; stood in front of the counter with the floor so sticky I could barely move my feet; waited while the counter person came back several times te, check on the order (popcom and a drink); and then gave my ticket to a slouched over person who grunted at me. And this seas a good day. It's not 50 bad everysehere. I fmnd that grocery stores are good, as seeli as restau- rants where they have tips in mind, hard- ware chains, and shops seere only one teenager is working. I don't blame the teens, 1 blame the peo- pie who train themn or watch over themn. You tell them what to do and make sure they do it. If they don't, you send them on their way to the other major chain. Recently, 1 ordered something at a large GAMBLI PROBLE If you or someone you know needs help v problern, pleate call the Ontario Problem Ga as 1-888-230-3505, or in your comi ADAPT Alcohol, Drug & Gambli Assessment Prevention & Treatm Burlington 905-639-65 Halton His 905-873-29 Milton 905-693-4250 Oakviile 905-847-654 Ail services are free and conf colfee chain. She got everything I ordered without coming back tu check tiro or three limes. 1 was impressed and gave her a tip. Then 1 thought about il. 1 iras impressed because somebody did what they were supposed 10 do? In most cases, it would take five minutes to train somebody t0 do these jobs. But, they're kids and often this is their first yen- turc into the work force. Teens can be dlue- less ai times, 1 remember il well. l'es still clueless somnetimes with work. One store wsecsSo good with their teenagc help that I sought out the owner tu tell him. It was a couple years ago. but the service 1 got was outstanding. I'm not against teenagers having fun sehile they work. But, they have to, keep in mind that they're there to do a job. If they make mnistakes, that's fine, l'mn not an ogre, but rudeness and poor manners shouldn't be tolerated. That's why l'm going to give aIl teens and their managers my special 10-second course in how handle thc public. Look ai thc customer, sesile aI the customer, and be pleasant.
