McGili anti Snow will represent thae town at tise provincials neit Salunly, Nov. 3 in Glotucester. By STEVE L.BLANC The Champion Milton Minor Basebali has already had an influx of new play- ers from the town's initial phase of expansion. And hopefuily parent volunteers won't be far behind. To date, however, that's flot been the case. In fact just three new volunteers stepped up to the plate for board of direc- tors duty earlier this month at the associa- fion's annuai general meeting. That's cause for concern- especially with a handful of longtime members recently leaving their posts. The most notable namnes on the list are rep convenor Paul Perront and chief umpire Paul Ewing, who've cited increaaed work and personal commitmrents as the reaaons for their respective departures. "These are big holes to 1111," said a frus- trated association president Sandy Teillier, who due to a lack of new blood will aasume the mantle of leadership for a third straight season despite the position tradi- tionally being held for two-year stints. "It was a poor tuenout (at the meeting). We've got a board of directors, but there's defmnitely flot enough members. And peo- ple can only hold these positions for so long before they start losing their effective- ness." The MMBA appeared to have tumed a corner in is fruttless search for new board Sign Up flOW The Milton Heights racing club, wbich skies out of Glen Eden, is gearing up for another season. The regular travel leagues are back tis year, including: " Nancy Green league (6 to 13 years); " Mackenzie league (11 to 13 years); " Hershey alpine league (14 to, 19 years); " Masters adult league (20 and up) of directors last fail when more than a dozen people came forward to boost the thinned-out ranks. Didn't follow through Remarked Tellier, 'When it came down toi cmnch time, you neyer saw them. We've got players coming in from the new sub- divisions. The question is 'How do you appeal to the parents?"' On a more positive note, rep basebail is set to deliver a full lineup next year after taking a significant it tis past sumntmer. Early last month new coaches committed to next season's rookie, mosquito and ban- tam tearms - ail] of which were on tempo- rary iatus through 2001 due to a lack of coaching. Junior, midget and peewee rep teams which survivedi last year's downgrade - will once again be offered. "They ahl came forward at the end of the season, wich is great," said Tellier. The veteran president can only hope a similar response for much-needed board of directors wiil be made during the associa- tion's next meeting, wich is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Main Street's Nascar Pit. Anyone interested in volunteering is asked te, attend. for ski raeing As weil, both youth and aduit house- league teams wiil be offered for a second straight season. New members, regardless of experience, are invited to join. For further details, contact Lin Leeson by phone at (905) 336-5382, fax at (905) 336-0042 or e-mail at sleeson7@home.com.
