16-The Canadian Champion, Friday, August 31, 2001 Discover Your Downtown -Gold Scissors Esthetics by Leanna Morley It's back to school again for me... It all started 4 years ago for professional esthetician Lennea Morley of Gold Scissors. She enrolled in the Electrolysis College of Canada and graduated at the top of her class. Six months later she began to work out of the basement of her parents' house and stayed there for almost 2 years. During that time she received a certificate in aromatherapy mas- sage. She also completed a work shop for ear candling and enrolled in the esthetics program at Sheridan College part time. Lennea has always enjoyed working with her hands and with people. "This was the perfect field of work for me," says Lennea. She next moved her business out of the base- ment to Cyr Electrolysis where she worked one day a week while she continued her studies. She then had an opportunity to work in a new salon in Brampton, but the pull of Milton eventu- ally drew her back to her home town. "Referral, for me, is the best kind of advertis- ing," says Lennea. "The referral that moved me into Gold Scissors in Milton came from my mom, Doris, and I'd like to thank Debbie who is still a loyal customer of mine to this day. Margaret Penson, Bev Soucie and Andrew Walker are now co-workers of mine where we run a laid back, easy going and plain old fun place to work. Margaret, Bev and Andrew are all hair stylists and I'm the esthetician." States Lennea, "We have a loyal customer base in Milton who refer us to their families and friends and we really appreciate their loyalty." Last semester at Sheridan Lennea completed the facial portion of her program. "I'd like to share something that I've learned with you about your skin. And why I have cho- sen Dermalogica for my facial product," explained Lennea. Why should I get a Dermalogica facial? Dehydration of the skin surface is one of the most common skin problems. The major causes of dehydration are evaporation and removal of sebum(oils) from the surface by the use of harsh, drying soaps and alkalis. When the surface of the skin is intact and healthy, it serves as a protective barrier to inhib- it evaporation. When the cells are packed tightly together, water cannot get through them, however if the cells are loosely packed and flaking, moisture evaporates easily. When the natural moisturizing factor is washed off with soaps and other alkali, the cells dry and crack producing dry skin. Dermalogica products are designed to work together to maintain the surface of the skin in its most intact state. They either supplement and augment the skin's natural protection, or il - ---- regulate excessive oils and maintain moisture levels. lt's important to know your skin type and condition to acquire the proper products to use on your skin to prevent dehydration. Many of my customers have asked me what my favourite service is. "Honestly," I say, "I love the variety." I have three more classes until I receive my certificate and then I probably will go back to school for a new service to offer to the town of Milton. Everyone is welcome, men, women, old or young. There is a service I offer that will guarantee to make you feel better whether it's physically or mentally. Come in for some total body wellness.
