Paul Carroll, 29, of Bramipton appeared in Ontario court (provincial division) in Milton Friday for a bail hearing. He faces charges of dangerous driving causing death and failing to remnain at the scene of an acci- dent. Competitive cycist Jacek Wserzbicki, 41, was struck by a car travelling southbound on Tremnaine Road, just north of Denry Road, at about 11:50 arn. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Mn. Carroll, who kept his head bowed through- out most of his court appearance, was released on $75,000 bail, which was posted by Nis step-father. The suspect agreed to abide by several conditions upon release. Conditions include refraining from drivig until the charges are resolved, seeking counselling for emotional problems, reporting to police once a month and continumng to reside at his current resi- dence. Although family members of the victim weren't in court, friend Bolek Hawrylewicz sat quietly through the proceedings. A pu blication ban prevents the media from reporting further details of the hearing. Police forces across the GTA issued press releas- es last week, stating they were looking for a gray 1995-1999 Hyundai Accent with visible damage to the windshield, night front signal and headlight. Police seized a 1999 Hyundai Accent and trans- ported it to the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto. The funcral for Mr. Wierzbicki was held Saturday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Etobicoke. Det. Sgt. Jackie Gordon, head of Halton police's north Halton cruninal investigation bureau, said police have no further comment in the case. Mr. Carroll will to return to court September 13 to set a trial date.
