Thse 2001 Communities in Bloomo com- petition is set to begin next week with the home garden patio entries, followed by town judging August 16. "There are seven home garden patio entries," said Lana Burchett of the Town's community services department. "Each winner will receive a $100 gift certiticate from Terra Greenhouses and a certificate from Milton's Communities in Bloom committee." Thse homes will be judged in seven cate- gories including colour sciseme and iealth of plants. Councillor Art Melanson, Champion Editor Karen Smiths and a representative of Landscape Ontario will judge the homes. Then Communities in Bloom judges Martin Quinn and Ted Blowes will tour the town with members of Milton's Communities in Bloom committee. Milton will be competing aga inat other communities in Ontario that are within the population category of 20,001 to 50,000. The winning communities will be announced in September. Mr. Blowes, founding member and vice- chairman of Communities in Bloomo, and Mr. Quinn, a member of Kincardine's Horticultural Society and Communities in Bloomo, will visit several sites in Milton including the Peace Garden at Martin Street School, the floral bed at the OPP sta- tion, Livingston Park, the ibrary gardens, the Peace and Butterfly Garden at Robert Baldwin School, Terra Greenhouses and Xeriscape Garden and Victoria Park and gardens. The judges wiII also have an opportunity to vjew the improvements at the Bronte Street Cemetery and visit Dufferin Aggregates to see tihe new landscaping. In judging the town, empisasis is placed on the variety and use of trees, shrubs and flowers along with the appearance and upkeep of private and public green spaces and residential gardens, environmental awareness, tidiness and thse care and pro- tection of heritage buildings and sites.
