Having lost a year between the transplant and recavery, Deidre demonstrated ber strong-will by making the mast of the summer of 1997. Deidre tald The Champion she doesn't remember much about the transplant or the pub- lic outpauning ai support. The only thing she remembers are the friends she made along the way. During ber annual check-ups at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Deidre said she likes ta stap by and visit the dactors and nurses she met during ber lengthy stay. She also likes ta visit some ai the children in similar situa- tions taday. It's just basically ta say 'hi,"' Deidre said. "We gave them t-shirts when we went for this year's visit. One girl, ber name is Deidre and she was really happy ta have a shirt that had ber name on i. TMe shirts she hands out are part ai an awareness campaign started by Mr. and Ms Schaltz through the Deidre and Friends Faundation.
