"Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) has a history of operating in an efficient manner,' said John Oliver, HHS president and CEO. "Its a credit to the board, staff and physicians that our efforts have once again heen recognized hy the ministry.' Over the past three months, HHS has received a total of $3.1I million t'rom thc Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. A portion of the funding- $1.35 million - was applied against the 2000/01 fiscal year to assist with the operation of 12 stretchers in the newly-renovated and expanded emergency depart- ment. The balance, $1.8 million, was awarded to the hospital based on its positive performance in the past two years. In calculating the performance awards, the Ministry of Health rec- ognizes cost efficiency, planned and realized growth in activity since 1999/00 and growth that occurrcd beyond the lunding allo- cation awards provided in the last fiscal year. -We are facing a very challeng- ing year," Mr. Oliver said, referring to the hospital's challenge in keep- ing up to the increasing demand for health care services from commu- nities experiencing rapid popula- tion growth. "The eliciency funding will be applied against the 2001/02 Operating Plan and will greatly assisi us in meeting the pressures that are before us in the upcoming year."
