And in the process, they tumed back al challengers en route to gold-medal per- formances. Junior girls competitor Michelle Dol and midget boys racer lan Butcher were dual HaItonIGHAC champs - leading 14 South Regional qualifiera for the local school. Doell took top honours in both the 800 and I 500-metre events with imes of 2:31.7 and 5:12.6 respectively while Butcher won the 400 and 800m with :53.7 and 2:13.7 efforts. Butcher also helped the midget boys' 4xlOOm relay leam advance wilb a fourth-place finish. Doell did likewise for the open girls' foursomne - wbo along witb kid sister Carly stnick silver in the 4x400m relay. Carly also qualified in two individual midget girls races. Following in her sea- soned sister's féoosteps, she tamed the 800m in 2:38.6 for second spot and look bronze in the 1,500m with a 5:33.6 per- formance. BR's Megan and Megan duo were tbe busiest athletes last week. In addition 10 qualifying with the-open girls relay team, each moved on in three other events. Among junior girls, Megan Ames was second best in the long jump with a 4.34m leap and was fourtb and fifth in the 200 and 400m with limes of 28.63 and 67.22 seconds. Midget girls compelilor Megan Burke sccured bronze-medal finishes in both the 200 and 400m - clocking in at 29.5 and 68.7 seconds - and was fourth in the 100m dlash, recording a 13.9s effort. She also helped the midget girls 4x100m relay team finish third with a collective showing of 58.6s. John MeDougaîl and Mike McGilI were within two seconds of each other in the grueling 3,000m - and both took third. MeDougaîl did 50 among' senior boys with a lime of 10:25.4, while McGilI was just a second-and-a-half back in îhe midgel boys race. Luke Brunner was third in senior boys discus - burling the sphere 29.47m. Kelso Mountain and Kaîbryn Wesîon each finisbed fourtb in the senior girls 400 and 800m respeclively, clocking in at 74.3s and 2:55.7. Midgel girls sprinter Ava Stofast was fifth in the 100m, needing 14.2s t0 com- plete the distance. Top four finishers from Thursday's South Regionals at Hamilîon's McMaster University advance 10 the OFSAA Championships, slated for next May 31 to June 2 in Elobicoke. Now 10 years of age, Goodîimes - wilh $2,002,721 on his card -joins longtime rival Glorys Comet ($2,048,445) in the elite Canadian club. A $ 19,000 yearling purchase by tramner John Bax's Parkhill Sîud Farm and partner Liberty North (John and Barbara Cooper) of Peterborough, Goodîimes has been driven 10 aIl but lwo of his 40 career wins by Wall. He competed in the Ontario Sires Stakes pro- gram ai lwo and three in 1993 and 1994, and has been a consistent world class performer ever since.
