Tearsome four make big waves Milton's golden girls sank their provin- cial competition last weekend in Etobicoke. The fearsome foursome delivered one of the club's most impressive efforts in recent memory during the Ontario Division IR Team Swim Championships - collective- ly capturing 16 gold medals. Leading the way at the short course ses- son-ending meet with five tirst-place per- formances weoe 12-year-old Aaryn Fraser and I 5-year-old Jennifer Pore¶a. Fraser upstaged her opposition in a vani- ety of events - using both speed and endurance to triumph in the 100 metre freestyle, 200m breaststroke, 200m butter- fly, 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley. The bulk of Porenta's success lay in freestyle competition, where she tumed back ail challengers over 50, 100 and 200m distances. She was also golden in the 100m butterfly and 200m individual medley. Close bebind with four gold-medal swims was inspirational leader Kristen McIlroy. The I 4-year-old won the I100m freestyle, 100 and 200m backstroke and the 400m individual medley. She also struck silver in the 200m freestyle. Rounding out the gold-medal march with victories in the 100 and 200m boeaststroke was 17-year-old Kate Chapman. Together, the four girls collected 160 points and guided the Marlins to a fourth- place showing, their best in club history. Milton gamnered seven other medals dur- ing the weekend, including three bronzes for nine-year-old David Dimitrov. Older brother George secured two bronze medals while Rachel Robinson and Jacqueline Clarke took home a silver and bronze respectively.
