John Oliver, chief executive offt- cer of Halton Heaithcare Services, was the region's highest-paid pub- lic sec-tor employee last year, earn- ing $205,264 in salary and $8,134 in taxable benefits. T1hat's $17,876 more in salary, and double the taxable benelits, from 1999. Halton Healthcare Services oper- ates Milton District Hospital and Oakville-Tralalgar Memorial Hospital. Mr. Oliver's salary and benelits must be disclosed along with every i)ther public servant paid more than $100,000 under the Public Sector Salaey Disclosure Ait. Since 1996, Ontario law requires provincial ministries, local govem- ments, school boards, public.sector agencies and some non-profit organizations to disclose the names and salaries of employees who eamed at least $ 100,000 in the pre- vions year. The amount of taxable bentefits paid must also be includ- ed. Halton Region CAO Brent Marshall earned $153,060 in salary and had $11,205 in beneftts. A total of 10 top-level regional employees made more than $ 100,000 last year. Halton Poltce Chief Ean Algar earned $125.449 in salary and $9.220 in benefits. Deputy Police Chief Gary Crowell and district commander Paul Cormier also made more than $100.000. Halton District Sehool Board Director Dusty Papke earned $138,718 in salary and $139in tax- able benelit. Hahton Roman Catholic District School Board Director Fred Sweeney earned $136.624 and $855 in taxable bentefits. There were nine district sehool board employees with salaries top- ping $ 100,000.
