Although the Christmas holidays are only two weeks away, extra-curricular activities are stili going strong. The winter sports season is well underway and many Spartan teams. saw action thia week. The music department was also busy. as tbey celebrated Christmas Hawaiian-style. The phya-ed department and the Student Athletic Society had a hectic week as Drury hosted three meets this week. On Tueaday evening, elementary sebool volicybali teams visited our school for a tournament and the event was a great auccess. Many thanka to the girls volîcyball team for organiz- ing a great community event! The girls volleyball teama also, hoated a round-robin tournament for higb school teama on Wednesday. Tbe ladies played well and continued their successful teason. Keep up the good work Spartans! The gyms will also be used on Friday and Saturday for a high- achool boys basketball tournament. Good luck to the Spartans as they compete as the host team! Another Drury team, thse wrestlers, saw action this week, bringing home gold medals from their meet in Georgetown. The guys bave kept the Drury winning tradition alive! Also seeing action this week were the swimming and girls hockey teams. Athletes at Drury have definitely been busy this week. Drury's musicians have also had an exciting week. On Wednesday evening the music department held their annual Christmas concert. This year however, the Christmas classie was given a Hawaiian twist. The result wss a unique and fus evening of musical entertainment. The montha of early momning rehearsals paid off as the choirs and bands played exceptionally well. What a great way to start the month of December! The firat week of December bas arrived with frigid winter weather. To help students prepare for thse freezing months ahead, thse entrepreneurship clasa presented s fashion show on Friday afternoon. Snowboarding apparel was provided by Boardtopia and was modeled by several Drury students. What a great chance for students to sec what's in style before they hit the alopes tbis winter! The annual Student Govemment Christmas food drive will be wrapping up this Wednesday. Special mention goes to Mark Antonelli and Andrew Pepper for making this year's collection possible. Also,. fifth period classes are participating in a Christmas toy drive. Mr. Pullano's Religion 500 class is continuing 10 collect winter clothing, sleeping bags and blankets for Covenant House in downtown Toronto. Bishop Reding's winter sports teams are in full swing. The Senior Girls' VolIleyball team recently finished second in a toumnament held at Bishbp Reding. The team played well, but could not beat Loyola in the Championship match. Meanwhile, the Junior Girls' Volleyball teamn travelled to the University of Toronto for their second tournament of the year. The team finished third out of twenty teams. Good luck to both t eams. as they start their regular seasons. The senior Boys' Basketball team travelled to Windsor this past weekend for the AII-Catholic, Classic. After winning three straight games, B. R. met Bishop Ryan of Hamilton in the Championship Final but were unable to take the win. Jodie St. John and Ryan Taylor played terrific throughout the toumrament and were both named to the aIl-star teams. We wish the boys luck as they travel 10 Notre Dame in Burlington this weekend to compete in another tourna- ment. On Thursday, December 21 at 7:30 p.m., B. In the weeks before Christmas studènts in second period class will be asked to donate any spare change that they might have.
