DATELENE DRURY E.C. DRURY iio* SCHGGL Joanne Gunding Lindsey Harrold Friday has arrived and it's time for another edition of Dateline Drury. The past week has been a hectic one filled with Spartan sports events, root beer chugging contests, and a little Pomp and Circumstance on the side. The Spartan athietes coantinued their campaign to make Drury proud as they participated in their events this past week. The cross-country runners brought their season to a close with an excellent showing at the GHAC finals. Special mention goes out to Melissa Logue who placed third in her division and earned a place in the upcoming OFSAA com- petition. Congratulations on a great season Spartans! As the runners hang up their shoes for the year, the celebrated wrestlers have pulled out their singlets in preparation for rookie camp next week. Drury's most spirited group of guys is looking for grade nine talent to join the team and help maintain the winning tradition, so head over to the wrestling room and get involved! The same athletes who have been busy in the gym, moved to the lockerbay Wednesday for Drury's annual Oktoberfest hosted by the Student Athletic Society. Where else can Drury students experience culturally enriching events such as root beer chugging and marshmallow eating contesta, arm wrestling competitions, and polka music performances? The Athletic Society also provided students with a chance to seek revenge on their teachers by including a dunk tank in the festivities. What a great chance for Spartans to have fun and show their school spirit! It is times like these students will remember long after they have left high school. Those who left this past year are returning in the near future for the last of their high school experiences; commence- ment. The date is fast approaching and two groups in partic- ular are preparing for the event. The first of these is the Drury Ambassadors, those smiling, friendly, helpful people who will keep things running smoothly during the ceremo- ny. The other group is the concert band. Commencement marks the first performance of the year for Drury music and they have been practicing hard to make it a success, As a result, everyone's favourite march Pomp and Circumstance can be heard echoing through the halls every Thursday morning before school. We know these musicians will sound great on the big night! As the year continues to rush past us try to remember, "Don't cry because its over, smile because it happened." Take advantage of aIl the things Drury has to offer. Have a great weekend!
