That was the story for Minesing's Brianna Martin Sunday morning during the sixth annual Women's Triathlon Milton at Kelso Conservation Area. The 16-year-old racer had won lsst year's shorter 300-metre swim, 11 -kilomne- tre bike, 2-kilometre mun course and this time around tested her mettie with the more gruelîng 750-metre swim, 22-kilo- metre bike, 5-kilometre mun triathion. Once again, she bested ail challengers- clocking in at an impressive 1: 14.0 1, just 15 seconds ahead of Georgetown's Lesley Grice. Sister shines as well Kid sister Arielle Martin, 12 - who last year won the 2-kilomnetre mun, 1Il-dilome- tre bike, 2-kilometre mun duathlon - won her 10-15 year age clans in the lengthier triathlon and was 11 th overaîl with a time of 1:20:40. Meanwhile, Camphellville's Sonia Boucher was the top local finisher. She placed 2OtJs overaîl and fourth in her 30-39 year division with a 1:27:28 effort. With shorter triathlon competition, local racers enjoyed greater collective success. Milton's Kristina Dick took second overaîl, clocking in less than a minute hehind winner Tamara Baldwin of Bmockville with a lime of 39.13. Four spots back for sixth - finishing in 41.01 - was Andrea Tereszko, who won her 20-29 age gmoup by more than half-a- minute. Neck and neck Fellow Miltonians Joan Whitman and .Camre Ann Nichols - 42 and 19 years of age - finished l3th and l4th respectively. Whitman, who was a mere seven sec- onda faster with a finish of 42.24, won her 40-49 age division while Nichola took sec- ond in her teen loop. Race founder Tina Braamn, 56, of Milton tamed the shorter triathlon course in 47:52 for top spot in her 50-59 year division and 48th place overaîl. Milton's top duathlon finisher was 30- year-old Shannon Dick, who stopped the dlock in 42.16. She waa third in the 30-39 division and l4th overaîl. One spot back within the -diviaion and 26th overaîl - with a time of 43.31 - was 32-year-old Darlene Long. Eleven-year-old Elissa Whitman was second in the 10-15 class and 81at overaîl. She negotiated the course in 48:35. This year's event included approximate- ly 350 competitors lfor the hest ahowing ever. Financially, Women's Triathlon Milton's 2000 showcase also hit a record . Now backed by major sponsor TwinLab of Acton, this year's event took in roughly $ 10,000 f'or Big Sisters of North Halton. The 15-year-old racer earned a fifth- place finish in his novice age clans f'or the season following Saturday's Grand Natidnals in Louisville, Kentucky. Despite a disappointing eighth-place fin- ish in the eighths round - duning which he crashed early and wan unable to recover - Alex had a fairly solid weekend, taking first, second and third place in his mottos within what wan the largest and arguably the toughest age division in North America. Strong performances in Pittsburgh and Waterford, Michigan led him to a top-five finish for the year. Mesnwhile, Milton's Bob Rowley - one of the top profeésionaI maIe riders in Canada - came up just shy of' getting pant the motto stage in his elite men's clasa Saturday.
