But rev àt up to highway speeds and something wondrous takes place. A Campbellville woman was able to return to her family unscathed last week after two drivers noticed she had passed out at the wheel while traveling westbound on Hwy. 401 in her Lumina mini-van. TO M R% MI) NEGLÇ~ By scooting ahead and beside her, the pair effectively maneuvered ~NWW * W W their vehicles to bring the Lumina to a safe stop on the shoulder of the(T4 SA E Y0 cilE > road. To do this, the men willingly drove both themselves and their vehi- cles into harm's way. They appear to have done it without hesitation, or regret. Milton's Michael McConnell is one hero in the high-speed tale. The second man, whose vehicle didn't appear to incur any damage, is the anonymous samaritan of the story. The heartfelt thanks of the driver and her family go out to, both men. So should the thanks of us aIl. With talk of driver frustration and ~e road rage still mounting, it's important to remember that sometimes angels sit behind the wheel, too. (The following letter was adaàressed ta Jennifer Reynolds, director of covnnunuty services for the Town of Milton, and a copy wasflled with The Champion.) Dear Editor: My busband and 1 are lufe-long residents of Milton, and homneown- ors for thse past 24 yoars. We're concemred about tIse poor state of green space in town. Thse quality ai landscaping has deteriorated each yoar -- this year boing tIse worst ever. Pleaso do not blamo thse wet weather. Crew leaders for tIse pri- vate landscapors have managod ta stay ahead of thse job for their com- mercial and industrial clients. The landscaping along the walking path near aur homo (adjacent ta thse bas- pitl) is donc in such haste. There arc arcas whoro the grass is scalpod ta the dirt and athers where it's twa foot taîl. And this is considered fin- ishod until thse ncxt time (anc or twa weoks). When thse now developors stars be complote with thse neweat design in retaining walls, bicycle patho and parka. The Town will be expected ta continue ta keep this ares pristine for tise new residents. ia it possible ta impravo thse care of the existing areas of îown, before thse job grows by leapo and bounda? The walking patha near my home are poorly fit, overgrown with treea and litterod with brakon glass and used items no one wishes ta view. How will the works department keep up when the tawn doubles in size? One suggestion wo have is ta use a umali portion of the "casino ore fummer oud ietor ala nit approptiate equipment (lawnmow- ors, whipper asipers and amail trac- tors). Although town caunicil has debated long ansd hard as Go where the money ohould go, I would like ta tlsitk an allocation af $20,000 ta $30,000 ta bonefit the averail appoarance of the town could flot be disputed. I look forward ta hoaring from yau, with your respanse ta my questions, concernis and sugges- tions. Jean and Jo.
