Owners Rick & Elaine Schaffer ran the business until August 1989. In ianuary of 1993, the shop was purchased by Max and Anita Mangotich. They soon relocated the store to a more central location downtown at 18 Main St. (next to Fitzgeralds Insurance). Anita's diverse career includes an extensive back- ground in retail sales, including retail pharmacy, real estate and retail merchandising. Not one to be left sitting stili Anita also tied grapes and picked apples while living at Niagara-on-the-Lake. Helping raise their three children, Max, her husband of 37 years spent his career with an international pharmaceutical company as a National Sales Manager. Max's background includes sales, market- ing, advertising and human relations. Although Max prefers to maintain a low public profile regarding the shop, he is involved in aIl aspects of the busi- ness. Mike is our resident goldsmith and bas been involved witb tbe business since 1989. Mike does most repairs on the premises and also creates ".one of a kind" pieces for any special occasion on request. Mike bas completed numerous jewellery prograss and is presently working on bis certification as a gemologist. The staff at The Gold Connection is made complete by two highly qualified and personable ladies. Susan McDermott has been with the store since 1994. She bas a vast background in retail having been with Sears for Il years with part of that time as Assistant Manager. Karina Cockburn-Swance has been with us since 1997. She bolds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and furtber upgraded ber skills by attaining her diploma in laboratory tecbnician from Sheridan College.
