In response, the minerai wool insulation manufacturing compa- ny is constructing a new $4 million, 150,000-square-foot ware- house at its Harrop Drive site. That'll double it's current storage capacity. The expansion comes on the heels of a $3 million environmen- tal project aimed at reducing foul-smelling emissions from Roxul's stacks. The company came under fire last year when some neighbours complained about a sulfurous smell emanating from the site, mostly in the summer months. Roxul manufactures insulation using rock from the Canadian Shield and steel slag, a by-product of the steel industry. The environmental plan is currently in its final stages. It includes initiatives such as a new curing oven combustion plant, a major overhaul of the air control system, the installation of an air cooler and a higher capacity fume incinerator. Most visible to the public, however, is a new 43-metre stack to vent the cleaned air. The environmental fix-ups are expected to be up and running before steamy summer weather hits. But the recent unusually hot and humid temperatures led to a handful of complaints, said Steve Koch, Roxul's marketing ser- vices manager. In response, company representatives met with the callers and explained the new system will be in place shortly. And May I1, Roxul employees, Mayor Gord Krantz and other Town officiais gathered beneath the late morning sun for an offi- cial warehouse ground-breaking ceremony. The warehouse is expected to be operational in September. "The purpose is to replace outside warehouses we're renting in Mississauga," said Roxul president Trent Ogilvié. "I' all come under one roof. It'il be more efficient." And that's good news for the town, said Mr. Krantz. "Certainly it adds a littie more cash into our cash register," he said. "I've always taken the philosophical approach that you should spend as much time encouraging expansion as develop- ment. I'm 110 per cent supportive here." What the expansion won't do is increase production at the site, assured Mr. Ogilvie, as the warehouse is for storage purposes only. The design-build project is being handled by Belcon out of Bellville. But Howden and Sons Ltd. have been contracted to take on at least some of the work. mon uomung, aucuoneer ae appraiser Next Sale at Agricultural Hall, Milton Fairgrounds, Wednesday, May 24th and lune 7th at 6:00 om ~c~r,§atholic schools raise L ~ ~ $15, 000 for charities Quality Custom Homes in student penny drive Additions - Renovations Commercial I lndustrial Construction Our Lady of Victory, Holy Rosary ant St. Peter's scbooia OflE a a auna recently raiseti more than $1 5,000 for charity duning its fourth :ree Estimates uvu9 oav-08o annual penny drive challenge.
