He was 58 years old. He lefI behind a legacy of pride, dedication and car- ing. 'He waa fair, he was honest, he Bob Randaîl treated everyone witb dignity and respect,' said bis wife, Phyllis Randaîl. The couple had recently celebrated their 301h anniversary. "He was a gond man.' Mucb of that could be evidenced tbrougb bis tenure witb the Royal Canadian Legion, brancb 136, in Milton. As an associate member, he was an elected officiai for 15 years at lthe Charles Street legion, serving as preaident from 1986 to 1997. He was recently nominated for a life membersbip, said current presi- dent Sharon McKeown. Mr. Randail is remembered fondly by veteran George Thomnborrow. "He waa one of the boys wbo turned Ibis brancit around. I can't say anytbing bad about Uic boy. He came in here wben thse branch was at a low point. He was good for the brancb snd be was good for the veterans,' said Mr. Thornborrow. "When be gave you a job t0 do, it was up to you 10 do it. But if t got stuck for infonmation, I could always go to Hobby." After losing lais son-in-law 10 cancer in the early 1990s, Mr. Randaîl turned bis considerable energy toward fundraising for the Terry Fox Foundation. He quickly becamne a fixture at the Terry Fox Run, participating eacb year witb bis grandson William. Over four yeara, he raised more than $9,000 for cancer research. Thr'ough the event, long-lime Milton Teny Fox Run organizers Kim and Craig Thomas came 10 know Mr. Randaîl as both a friend and avid activiat in the figbt againat cancer. As a testament t0 the man, the Thomas family will dedicate their participation in Ibis year'a mun 10 Mr. Randal. Wben not wearing the bat of legion pres- ident, Mr. Randaîl was an active bead of the Consumnera Glass union. 'If7 ià wasn't the legion, il was the union," said Ms Randaîl. . HALTON REGION (Lower Base LUne Réad té Britannia Road) Class Environmental Assessment Study The Region of Halton is proposing improvements to the horizontal curved section that occurs on Tremaine Road, approxirnately rnid-way between Lower Base Line Road and Britannia Road in the Town of Milton. These potential improvementa are being considered to improve roadway operations and to address safety concernas. Options to rnodify the existing sharp bends in the roadway will be investigated. 'lTe project is being planned as a Schedule B undertaking followtng the require- menta of the Class Environental Assessment for Municipal Road Projecta. The study will include an inventory of the exiating environent, the identification and assessment of alternative solutions, and selection of a preferred solution, with consideration of public and governrent agency input. We would appreciate receiving your commenta or concernas regarding the project. Mectings will be held with directly affected homeownera, to enable us to incorporate their commenta and/or concernis inb the planning and design of this project. Subjet to the cornimenla received and the receipt of neceasary approvals, bte Region of Halton intends; 10 proceed with thse planning, design and construction of this project.
