Partially dug-up body was left exposed overnight: trial First-degree murder trial continues before jury in Superior Court By USA CARTWRIGHT The Champion Event though the OPP had a search warrant for a Derry Road property on February 6, 1998, investigators didn't start digging for the remains of Stephen Andreopoulos until seven days later, court heard Monday. Mr. Andreopoulos, 36, was last seen alive on JuIy 2, 1996 with for- mer Milton resident David Fiorino. Mr. Fionino, 27, of Brampton is charged witb bis murder. Each of the four police witnesses called by Crown Brian O'Marra as the trial continued in Superior Court in Milton sbowed the jury the careful planning police did before digging. OPP Det. Staff Sgt. Kenncth McDonald told the court officers apent the days leading up to the digging marking the 14 potential burial sites and arranging aIl the details. On Fcbruary 18, Constable Doberty and anotber officer rctumcd 10 Uic site and started sift- ing througb Uic dirt Uiat bad cov- ered Mr. Andreopoulos' body. The officers found Uic strap for a watch that bclonged 10 tic Barre- ares victim. Whcn asked by Mr. Nuttail, Constable Doherty didn't know whether the tarp was covered. So the dirt was sittung on the tsrp from February 13 to February 18, exposed to the elemnents, Mr. Nuttali commented. During his cross examunstion, Mr' Nuttali ssked the witnesses simnilar questions. He asked the officers why they choose 10 leave the remains exposed ovemight. "In part of Uic careful considera- tion, did anybody think to bring hcavy duty Iighta in case the body was found toward the enïd of tbe day," hie asked Det. Staff Sgt. McDonald.
