More than 200 volunteers tumned out Saturday to bask in summier-like temperatures wbile toiiing to clean up various spots throughout urban Milton and as far afield as Moffat. Togetiser, the volunteer Good Neighbours Community Day crew helped clear debris from natural sites such as Sixteen Mile Creek. They also perfonned varmous chores for local seniors, includ- ing yard work, window wastsing and painting jobs. But their good work was laid to waste when unknown vandals tossed somte of the garbage, wlsich was piled up ina wait for a Monday pick-up, back into the creek. As botb a Milton reaident and father of a young girl, Richard Brown said he was saddened and stunned by thse act. He had taken bis aeven-year-old daughter Emily to participate in the Community Day dlean-up, fisbing everytbing fron bicycles, shopping carts, s mul'flcr and a computer out of the creek. 'You cati tbink of anytbing, it was in that creek," he said. But when the pair retumned Sunday t0 rcview their work, tbey were borritied to find the garbage had been tossed back into the creek. "(Emily) was clearly in somne sort of sbock as to wby Ibis had bappened," said Mr. Brown. "As a parent, ail you can tell cbildren is don't give up hope."1 Community Day organizer Paul Scherer expressed disgust and diabelief over the incident. "Tbat's unbelievable. 1 can't for the life of me understand how anyone can take pleasure Irom that kind of destruction," be said. But he vowed not to be beaten by the vandalism.
