Milton Music Festival kicks off this Monday -mse Canadien Champion, Frlday, April 28, 2000 - 23 Punk rock is far from dead, say members, of Milton's Simpleton Halton's largest music festival is coming to Milton. More than 1000 musicians will compete in the adjudicated Milton Music Festival, which will kick-off Mouday and continue until May 12. When it's over, about 50 students will have received $2.000 sud $3,000-scholar- chips. The scholarships have been donated by area businesses, organizations and individ- uaîs. The festival is presented by the Milton Music Teachers' Association and began in 1980 as a one-day annual event for piano students. Now running once every two yesrs, the event stretches close to two weeks and includes voice, strings and woodwind classes, along with piano. They're adjudicated by a seam of six musical experts who have made their own mark*either as composera, examinera or professors. ,'Our adjudicators are very, very respect- ed," aaid festival coordinator Jan Carson. Students range in age from 6 years to their mid-forties. Residents are encouraged to look in on the classes, which take place as Hugh Foster Hall (beaide Town Hall) and Knox Preabyterian Church on Main Street from Moudsy to Friday. Piano classes commence the following week, at the Milton Seniors' Activity Centre on Childa Drive. Programs eau be picked up in the lobby of any of those facilities, so residents cas choose what they may want to listen in ou. And the senior atudeuts are a treat to hear, said Ms Csrson. "For the seniors, it's like watching a free concert," ahe said. 'These kida are good." The festival culminates in an afteruoon Grand Concert Suuday, May 14 at Knox Preabyterian Church. Everyone is invited to attend. Though the Milton eveut is the biggest in Halton, a new festival was conceived in Burlingson st year. Maritime Pub Night soon 'Mse Milton Choristers will hold a con- cert at the Gambrel Barn at Country Heritage Park on Saturday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. This year's Maritime Pub Night is expected to repeat the roaring, sold-out succesa of ast year's British IlIe Pub Night. Organizers of the event promise this finale concert will make for an exhilarat- ing eveniug of down east favourites. Thse Choristers will also welcome sever- ai daucers from the Jacqueline Smith Highland Dance Studio. The evening will feature a siug-along with a live baud. Snack fooda will be served and a cash bar will be available.
