In a slim 5-4 vote on Januasy 31, council tumed down a planning staff report thet supfsorted the developer. Now, council could opo tosend Town staff as our representative et the pending 0MB hearing. When they're aeked for their 'professional opinion' hy thse 0MB boand member, staff wll support the developerl, just as shey diti in theïrzxeport. In an election year, an astute 0MB membmr might wrong- Iy conclude that cosincîl madie e politicelly-motivated plan- ning deoision anti "ceveti to the demnande of e small but vocal group," as Ceounllor Rick Melbioeuf says. As for EC. Dns.y it's tdm to do the nigho thing.,Ot's time -for countcil to tell the communîty wheoe it Stands on Inaçpro pilat development. If they tion't tlght something as bati as this proposal, then it'e efear that the developers end their friends are running the show in Milton, just as they are in most of the tet of the province. So, Milton council, how about using a few of those -Mohawk Raeeway slot- machine dollars to litre an intiepen- tient Iawyer anti planne to go to the 0MB?? You cati bet tdm the people of Milton are behiti you. Chn.nine fy«s ChId 0,1v. Dear Editor: We wrote a fairly long Intter to Ted Chudleigh on February 18. Here is a con- densed version. We want to bring you an update about the E.C. Dnsry situation and aak for your assistance et Queen's Park. Around the time of your victory in the provincial election, you wrote a letter to Mayor Gord Krantz to clarify your posi- tion on the development plans for the E.C. Drury lands. You said that you support development of the property if use cen lie restricted only to senior citizens. In its cun-ent development proposaI, HD lnvestments bas removed the nursing home. According to Town planning direc- tor Me] Iovio, there is no Iawful way to limit occupancy to seniors in the proposed 195-unit condominium. We also want to advise you that we have filîd two Fréedom of Information oequests with the Ontario governiment. The first was with the Ontario Reaîty Corporation (ORC). the second with the Ministry of Education and Training. Disappointingîy, we received lesa than haîf the information on file. Despite this, we were able to piece together many of the events Ieeding us to where we are today. It's very' clear that the decision by the Province to declare the property surplus wa baaed on seriousîy- flawed advice. For exemple, the ORC toîd the govern- ment there were about 100 trefes in total. There are mooe than 3,000 trees. They toîd the government that the property wes edvertised for salé for three weeks in the local papers. This is not true. They say there was a proper tender process. We see no evidence of that. One thing is now certain. The deveîop- er's proposai doesn't meet the sole condi- tion for development thet you outlined so cîearly lest May. Given the obviously flewed and unfair prJceas used in this instance, we urge you to intervente and cause the process to be restarted. A fair outcome wouîd lie for the ORC to again offer the park to the Town at a fair price. moi Cutiar Friands of E.C.
