J Thne performance will feature Gabriel Faure's Requiem Opus 48, one of the most well known choral works of the st century. The literai translation of requiem is mass for the dead. But the spring show is ail about hope and life, as characterized hy rich harmonies and ever-changing textures. And for the lirst time ever, the Choristers wili he joined on stage hy the Oakville Chiidren's Choir. Both are under the direction of conductor Glenda Crawford, who is in her second year at the helm of the Choristers. The Oakville choir features youths aged 7 to 16 years, culled through an audition process. The senior choir have already trav- eiled part of North America with their songs, and this Juiy wili make a trip to Itaiy to take part in the Tuscany tnternational Children's Chorus Festival. The March event wili be roun.ded out hy haritone Giles Tomkins, currently in his second year at the University of Toronto's music taculty. He's already a veteran performer, hav- ing stood alongside the likes of the Toronto Mendelssohn Youth Choir and the Toronto Children's Chorus Alumni choir. He's also the recipient of a collection of awards including the Pinchas Ziegel Memorial Scholarship from the University of Toronto's music faculty. Composer Faure (1845-1924) also won his share of accolades, including first place in composition for Cantique de Jean Racine. Written when he was a young man in Paris, the piece wiii be per- formed at the upeoming event.
