The Canadien Champion, Tuesday, February 8, 2000 -7 SO UR READERS WRITE There are other options in Drury land proposai Dear Editor: As a resident backing onto the proposed develop- ment at E.C. Drury I have been against.she ides of'any form of housing whjle supporhing the need for a nurs- ing home. Now that a nursing home isn't in the cards 1 amn against development totally. The seniors' housing has no suggested selling price and an incredible vagueness about bouse sizes. 1 don't know many seniors who would support a "pig in a poke". As for council's 5-4 decision not ta support the development the only man who stood up and provided l'acta versus emotion ta any degree was Councillor Richard Malboef. Every developer and agent I have spoken with ays the next step lfor I-D Investments is the Ontario Municipal Board. History says that we as citizens opposing the development wili lose. Halton Hilis just bast a similar battle witb far more pertinent objections to land use and spent $500,000 doing so. One of the tirst witnesses HD could cali would be our Town staff whose lever changing Officiai Plan now supports the development. Mmnd you few of them live in our town anyway. I sec two options. One is petitioning the provincial government througb Ted Chudleigh. t believe Mr. Cbudleigh must preserit the pesition whetber he supports it or not. The second possibility is ta use Multon's new-found wealtb from slot machine gambling, now flowing at an estimated $500,000 per montb according to recent reports, ta purchase the property and furtber upgrade it as a park and sports facility. Thanka ta council's fore- sight and mn-camera secrecy this would probably also resuls in having ta psy off the developers cosa. Perhaps yau don't like tbese suggestions. They se options that at least seem ta satisfy the majority and tbat's more than you have received from town council. No development as ailia hopes not expectations. Patrick Kelly Gowland Crescent 1'm flot a fan of piping Dear Editor: Hi folks! My husbsnd and I look forward ta your Champion every week. We don't agree with piping wster l'rom aur ares. Came on up and sec how low the water bas gone in the Georgian Bay. Rocks and rocks we bave neyer seen before dot the whale shoreline. .People with cottages ail along the shore have ta wslk througb up ta 20 feet of sludge ta get water deep enough ta tlost their csnoes and amali boats -- it's unbelievable. We hope for ramn next year. A lot of rivers are now streama and streama are dnied up -- bsd for aur lishing. AIl the best ta you auin the year 2000.
