Part of this exercise was to recognize that growth will be an important factor in everything we do for the next several years. We invited Mario Belvedere, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Milton, to give us an overview of the growth that will be coming to Milton. Mario stated that in Canada, the fastest gmowing community will soon be Milton. The Businesses in oui commtnity cao either be proactive in the pursuit of opportunities that will be presented by this growth or they cao sit back and hope the growth will increase business without any effort on their part. Discussion also centered around the crisis in transportation in the GTA. We have already met with the other Chambers in Halton as well as the MPs and MPPs to voice our concerns about gridlock. From our discussions we arrived at the following objectives: sTo promote and encourage a strong downtown core *To promote Milton as a place to live, work and play *To encourage present businesses to position themselves t o take advantage of the new growtb in town *eo encourage new businesses to open/start an operation in Milton's Core Business District *To continue monitoring local govemment on bow it responds to the growth and related problems @To educate business on problems associated witb the transportation crisis *To be a strong voice for business on the issue of transportation. As you cao see from oui list that one of our top priorities is the downtown. We believe in the need of a strong downtown core and are establishing a new committee that we hope will help form the complexion of the Central Business District. We are actively looking for people who would be interested in sitting on this committee. The Chamber's goal is to be proactive in establisbing Milton as the best place to, live, work and play.
