6 - The Canadian Champion, Frlda, December 24,1999 ~COMMENT TIME To GM SCKOD' Merry Christmas Ot4TRIO everyone at Champion There's no0 better tîrne than this eve of Christian celebration to reflect on the wider meaning of Christmnas. The traits of caring for the less formuate, giving freely of one's tîrne to help others, is the true rneaning of the season. Christians certainly have no rnonopoly on these virtues but they corne to the forefront at this tirne of year. Contributions such as ones to our Christmas Bureau Fund for the fg Salvation Arrny have corne frorn al! groups, religious denorninations and citizens at large. It's this kind of giving and sense of cornrunity that makes us hurnan. And if we need a tirne in the year to rernind us ' of this fact, Christmnas will have served its purpose. Much is made of the cornrercalzation of the season with the ernphasis on gifts, decorations and entertaining. But certainly the get- ting together with friends and family and sharing one's good fortune( with others is also part of the Christrnas tradition of giving, caring and sharing. At this time, let's ail stop and give thanks for what we have and tink about how we rnight enrich the lives of others. Mr Christmnas frorn everyone at The Champion.
