Witbin the confines of Etobicoke Olympium, Jennifer Porenta led the way for the locals at the Senior Provincial Championships. The 14-year-old kicked off the weekend in style by eamning a spot in the consolation finals of the 100 metre freestyle - eventually tak- ing 22nd out of over 100 partici- pants with a new club record time of 59.76 seconds. She picked up one place in- the evening' s bonus consolation finals, competing in the long course (50m pool> and tylng lor 2 1 si spot with a girl irom Brantford. But Jennifer's best performance was reserved for a shorter freestyle event. Over 50m, she completed the preliminary round in just 27.32 for ninth place and a lead position in the consolations. Unfortunately, she had reached her peak a littie eal - as she feul back a few spots in the consolation finals and had to settle for l4th overal. Meanwhile, Milton's other repre- sentatives also fared weil. Kristen Mcllroy, 13, tamed the 100m backstroke in 1:08.94 to place 39th out of 79 .ornpetifots. lIn the 200m backstrokc, she was 3l1st out of 69 swîmmers by clocking in at 2:26.90. The lone maie for the Marlins- Garrett Lysil, 15 - placed among the top baif of ail racers in both the 100m and 200m butterfly. As well, he delivered a personai best and new club record in the 50m freestyle. Rounding thinga out were sisters Kassie and Stephanie Siiekers -- who speciaiized in the breasistroke and backstroke respectively. Each placed in the top haif of ail] swimmers in their age groups.
