The Winterhawks came out on top in three-on- threc akilîs competition at last wcckend's show- case. Goaltender Taylor Prestidgc, Jeff Black, Brian Hunter and Matt Jessup upstaged thc field and came up wînncrs. Unfortunatcly, the same couldn't be said whcn it came to actually toumnament play - in which the local boys rcachcd the championship finals but wcre shadcd by Belletire, Michigan 4-2. The game winner was pottcd inside the last tirec minutes of regulation time whilc an cmpty netter sealed the deal. Milton's scorers were Matt Clark and Brian Hunter. The 'Hawks wcnt unbeaten through the round robin. They sandwiched a 4-1 victory over the hosts with staiemnates against Brantford (5-5) and Sarnia (4-4). Scott Stover led offcnsively with four goals- tallying twice in the win and once in cach tic. Clark had a pair of goals through preliminary action, as did Jeif Blaçk and Mark Thompson. Strong showing Milton's AA midgcts won four straight games before falling to the hosta in the semnifinals at last wcckend's Pickering Toumnament. A 3-1 losa in the final four clash was as com- petitive as the score would indicate - with Uic local lad outshot 22-19. The Spectrum Airways Winterhawks showcd a lot of composure in coming out ahcad in four Rep Hockey straight tigbtly contested encounters through the round robin and opening playoff rounds. Their victima included Georgetown (5-2), Newmarket (3-1), Vaughan (5-2) and the Pickering AAA bantams (3- 1). Josh Amnold and Chnis Kovachik split the net- minding duties and were rock solid the entire weekend. Captain Jordan Jeans led the way witb five goals and five assista while Andrew Kirkland potted six goals and assisted on tbree oiliers. The team's top play maker - with a baîf- dozen helpers to go along with his single tally- was Derek Mewhinney. Explosive victorY Scoring early and often in Flamborough Sunday, Milton's A major atoma blasted the hosta Sabres 8-2. Graham Sharp enjoyed the lion's share of thc offensive pie - scoring a couple of goals and assisting on threc others, including Uic final nail in thc coffin by Andrcw McLean. A number of other standout performancés weoe delivercd including one by Chris Shortt.
