That's when the first cheque from siot machine revenue at Mohawk Raceway is expected to come in, town council heard Monday. And as in most games of chance, no one seema to know how large the windfall will be. "It's very difficult for us to come up with a figure at this point," said Giacomo Pastore, manager of municipal and eco- nomic development for the Ontario Lottery Corporation (OLC). But he did note that since the slots arrived last August, horse race wagering has increased by 40 per cent and the purses have nisen by 25 per cent. Decisions on how to spend the cash should not be made until the OLC can show council the money, cautioned the Town's director of corporate services Jim McQueen. "What should the Town do with these funds? "We feel it's quite early to tell that,"1 he iuseiu Immune to the necessity for advertising sooner or later finds itself immune to business." If that grant were to be taken away, it wouid. represent a 10 per cent tax hike for residents, said Mr. McQueen. The dollars could alan be used to beef up sagging infrastructure., And if extra policing is needed near Mohawk, a portion of Milton's boot would ikely have to be foiiced over to the Region to pay for it.
