During the week, we were fortunate .2 enough 10 have a 'visit from ~ , Mr. Martin Caputo, one of the original mrembers of the Milton District Hospital -.11- 1 1 Board of Directors. Following a tragedy aI his place of work in the '50s, Mr. Caputo championed the cause 10 establish a hospital in Milton. Mr. Caputo remembers working with Mr. McNab and Mr. Harris 10 enlist the support of influential people in the community and government. As leader of the labour union, Mr. Caputo was key in getting the support of union members and local companies. "Labour (unions) and the corporations were on the same side of this (hospital), issue. We worked very closely on il because we both wanted il 10, be a reality." We sincerely thank ail the founding members for laying the foundation for our community hospital. FUNDING FOR OUT-PATIENT EATING DISORDERS PROGRAM An annual funding commilment of $158,000 from the Ministry of Health will allow Halton Healthcare Services (HHS> 10 continue ils successful Out- Patient Eating Disorders Program. The Outpatient Eating Disorders Program began 2 years ago.as a pilot program. The program was originally funded by the OTMH Charitable Corporation, under the guidance of Dr. Jane Gilbert, Psychiatrist. Due 10 the overwhelming demand for the program an application was made for permanent funding 10 the Ministry of Health lasI July. OThe pilot program allowed us 10 demonstrate the need for the services in the community, "said Debby Gaines, Mental Health Program Leader aI Halton Healthcare Services. uOur two years experience eflabled us 10 compile ail the data required by the Ministry 10 qualify for permanent funding," added Dr. Gilbert. The programn wilI be expanded so that people will have more access 10 a much needed servioe. Il will offer family therapy, individual counsell 'ing and more extensive family'education. Il will also allow for more Psychiatric, Occupational Therapy and Dietary services. "Il is ail very excitingl Now, we have the opportunity 10 plan for a permanent program," continued Ms. Gaines.
