For the first time, HHS, which operates Oakville Trafalgar Memorial and Milton District hos- pitals, will be seeking a joint accreditation next June. The voluntary program will mea- sure the hospitals against national standards as one unit, explaiwed HHS Ombud Lisa Droppo. Both are currently certified fromn the Canadian Councit on Health Services Accreditation. But the 2000 test will determine how well the hospitals have inte- grated their services, said Ms Droppo following a recent HHS board meeting. "Because we are functioning that way, it makes sense En do the accreditation this way," she said Eight internai teams are cutrently examidning what challenges need En be addressed, said Ms Droppo. "Because we are fumctioning tbat way, it makes sense to do the accreditation this USA SPPSl "There are different degrees of integration across sites. This gives us a jood opportunity En improve that," she said. "We see this as a real oppnrtunity En support that integration." Things don't need En be in per- fect working order En achieve accreditation. What is needed are working plans on how En tackle outstsnding issues. "They want En know Ehat if we have something we need En address, that we have a plan En fix. it," said Ms Droppo. HHS Y2K compliant in other board news, HHS has assured residents that it ix Y2K compliartt. But since the hospitals can't guarsntee that al] outside sys- terns affecting themn are equally ready, back-up plans have been devised to ensure Ehat there will flot be a drop in service Janusry 1, 2000. Also, the search is on for more anesthetists in Milton. A critical shortage of anesthetists has led to the recnsitmnent of med- ical headhunters Medfall Inc. A joint position between HHS's two hospitals has been suggested 'tg sweeten the offer for potential recruits. Medfall ix the company that found Milton's new OR-GYN Dr. Sandy Sharma. 11__ __ 5EtE E 53 R RD. ý1 - R U!
