ô6-The Canadian Champion, Friday, October 8, 1999 SCOMMENT ~~~rC' Show your thanks by IYu. staying safe and sound Thanksgivrng weekend traffie on local roads and highways wili sîgnificantly rncrease with hohiday travel, as well as final visits to the cottage and other seasonal events. While this holiday is a Uirne to reflect on the things we are grate- fui for, too many Thanksgivmng long weekends have ended in 41 tragedy. Last year, the OPP investigated the deaths of nine people i car crashes across the province on Thanksgiving weekend. The crash- es were caused by speeders and impaired and aggressive drivers. Five of the people who died weren't wearing seat beits. Drivers remain the key to safety. Watch out for pedestrians and) cyclists. Anticipate the unexpected. Be attentive i construction 1% K..1INp zones and alert to changes in the road and weather conditions. Avoid driving too closely to trucks. If you can't see the truck driver in the truck's mirror, the truck driver can't see you. Buckle up, obey speed lirnits and ahl road signs, and have a safe weekend.
