Drury Tuesday - squeezing out a single basket victory in the first cross-town clash of the new school year. The Royals' 33-31I triumph was rather uneventful, with the excep- tion of the last quarter when their hosts staged an exciting rally and threw some suspense into the after- noon showdown. But Drury efforts came just a littie too late and as a resuit tbey fell to 1- 1. Meanwhile, BR remained unde- feated in regular season play with two wins. Despite a significant size advan- tage, the Spartans had ail sorts of problema penetrating through the opening haïf and couldn't get a han- die on their few offensive rebounds. Taking it up a notch down the stretch, they raised their intensity level and finally began scoring - but not quite enough to overcome an early deficit plus solid defence by opposing Royals Anma Gori and Amy Prisnuak. EC's Patricia Jaecklîn was the top shooter in the gaine with 1l points. She went 5-for-5 at the foui line while collectively, ber squad drained ail six of their free tbrows. Teammate Tara Jukes bad nine points while Laura Adamson - who provided a few key blocks early on to keep things relatively close - sank three baskets. Alicia New and Jacqueline Hunt spearheaded the victors' offensive drive with, nine and eight points. New highlighted her efforts with a field goal juat before haïf time. Lacking any kind of height, the Royals weren't fiashy on the court, although theydid look slightly sharper overaîl and got more pro- duction (romn their supporting cast.
