That shlows employers ta top up their wages, providing a better deal for students struggling with higis tuition costs and student ioans. "Most businesses couldn't hire stu- dents for $6.85 because of rising tuition costs," said Ms Murray. "Students can afford to be a little more choosy." And a provincial prograni offers a $2 an hour wage subsidy ta employ- ers willig ta isire students. "There are a lot of oealy good pro- gramns; tisat people don't know about," said Ms Murray. And tisey are not ail for students oniy. One program, called Job Connect, offers a $4 an isour subsidy for youtiss aged 16-24. Il also helps them bone up on inter- view skills and resumne wrtting. "Il is a ittle bit of heip for youtis," said Ms Murray. "It Ieads theni in the night direction." Another program offers a subsidy of up to $7,500 for employers willing to hire someone currently on employment insurance.
