Night at the races and casino will be millennium fundraiser The Canadien Champion, Friday, September 3, 1999 - 11 The Milton 2000 committee is adding up its pennies in order to count down the new millennium. To ensure the numbers tally up, the committee is throwing a Community Night fundraiser at Mohawk Raceway. Tickets to the Thursday, Oct. 14 event sell for $40 a pop. That buys a lavish buffet dinner and an electrifying evening at the races. It aiso provides an opportunity to scope out the new, glamourized raceway complete with 750 slot machines. The dining room opens at 6:30 p.m. and races kick off an hour later. Groups, companies and organi- zations are invited to join in the fun and promote themselves at the same time by sponsoring a race. That will earn them a trip to the winner's circle for an up close and personal view of the proceedings. More events coming Future fundraisers are also in the works. They include a Brazilian ball, Las Vegas night and a possible excursion to see the Lion King at the Princess of Wales theatre. Proceeds will go towards spruc- ing up the Town through public projects such as the Mill Pond, Town trails and a millennium gar- den. The committee is also working on making the millennium memo- rable through January 1 celebra- tions, a time capsule and a commu- nity calendar highlighting all the festive events dotted through 2000. Tickets to the Mohawk Raceway fundraiser can be purchased at Town Hall, the Farmer's Market and various Main Street stores.
