More than 100 Al-Falah community members met with local politicians, Halton police and RCMP Friday night to discuss recent alleged terrorist plots and backlash some Muslims in North America faced as a result. A.Q. Mufti, the meeting's organizer and chair of the centre, noted an incident late last month where a Muslim woman in Boston, MA was allegedly punched by a man as she pushed her child in a stroller. The individual said he was angry at Muslims for the Boston Marathon bombing. Mufti also referenced a recent occurrence in Toronto where a man allegedly spit on a woman wearing a hijab. Muslims do not deserve hate being directed against them, said Mufti, as the horrible actions of terrorists are their own and not sanctioned by Islam. Community member Dr. Aliya Khan agreed.
